The Wilderness Place

Hello Everyone. Greetings in the Lord!

In a previous writing, I wrote MY Purpose part 1. I am working on My Purpose part 2. In order for you to understand what I keep talking about, when I reference that my husband and I are in our wilderness place, I thought you probably should read the article that I wrote back in 2006.

When I first started writing online, I was doing a Daily Inspiration writing. This is what I shared with everyone as the Daily Inspiration for Friday, August 18, 2006. Maybe it will explain our Wilderness Place. Many of you may be in your wilderness place, back in “Egypt” or even in your “Promised Land”. Well, it is now October 2008 and we are still in our wilderness place. There has been a lot that God has had to deal with us about. More things than I could ever imagine in the farthest stretch of my human imagination.

It is beyond words, how much more free I feel because of all the baggage that has been taken away from our lives. Soaring with eagles’ wings is a good feeling. I desire this for you as well. Please be encouraged when you are being refined like silver in the Refiners fire. It is hurtful for the moment but when we come through we can be like those in Isaiah 40:31: “But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.”

Hope you enjoy this writing and may you soar and fly!:

The Wilderness Place

The Wilderness Place

Deuteronomy 28-31.

The Lord is doing some amazing things in my husband’s and my life. I compare our lives to the children of the children Israel when God led them out of Egypt, in the wilderness and then into the Promised Land. Alabama was our Egypt. There is nothing wrong with Alabama. I was born and raised there. My husband Terry was raised there as well. We met and married in 1976, lived there for several years after we married and 2 of our 3 children were born there. We spent over 20 years there and it was a place that God never intended for us to be. He took us out once and we came back to “Egypt” when He wanted us to stay in North Carolina. We didn’t realize that at that time but we know it now. He had a plan for our lives then. He still does. Phil. 1:6 says,” Be confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will complete it.” God is so faithful. The work that He started all those years ago, He is now in the process of completing in our lives. He patiently waited on us to get to the place in our lives that we were ready to listen.

He has brought us here to our “wilderness” place to do His work in us. The wilderness place in a person’s life is where God cleanses a person, removes all traces of Egypt. Everything and everyone that is familiar isn’t there anymore. What used to work and has always worked in the past won’t work anymore. The same old bag of tricks that you can pull stuff out of a hat and still make it through won’t work anymore. God brings you to the point that all you have to rely on is Him. He wants to remove anything and everything in our lives that would possibly hinder us from totally 100% relying on and depending on Him.

We have come so far. Neither Terry nor myself realized how much we depended on other things and not on God until He brought us here and started working on us. Let me tell you, it has not been an easy ride either! But, Glory to God, Christ be Praised!!! It is a life that I can’t even begin to describe when you get to the point that you realize that God is all that you need. Christ is the Truth, He tells the Truth so we can believe everything without question that is said in His Word because He is the Word!

Now you know why God has led me to start the Daily Inspiration ministry to others. We definitely have a story to tell from our personal experiences with Him. If you belong to Him you have a story to tell, too. After all, that is what it is all about- accepting Christ, living totally for God, following the Holy Spirit’s guidance and telling others about Him.

We are not quite ready yet to go to the “Promised Land” that God has prepared for us. Remember the “Promised Land” is the place that God wants you to be in His perfect plan for your life; whether it be an actual move to another place, as it is with us, a job change, a change in what you are doing, another church home, some form of ministry or work that He wants you to do for Him or something that He wants to teach or reveal to you. This is so that He can refine you, teach you what He wants you to know, get every bit of Egypt out of you, get you out of your comfort zone and stop depending on the familiar and totally depend on Him.

Like He did with the children of Israel, when we are ready, God takes us to that Promised Land place to Bless Us!! When Egypt is gone from us and all we need is Him, then God takes us to our Promised Land. There is more to it though…we have to possess it. If God didn’t prepare us like this, we wouldn’t be able to possess the blessings and handle them. It would be too overwhelming and we would fall again. We also have to continue to look to Him totally or we will fall again right back to the Egypt place and loose our blessings and be in bondage again.

Terry and I are not quite ready for our Promised Land but God has let us know enough about it that we are anxiously looking forward to possessing it! I have spend the last 6 days in prayer and fasting, being taught in His Word and hearing from Him. I know and declare with all that is within me that He does what He says and having unquenchable faith in Him is all that we need because He is all that we need.

In His Service,

Robbie Goodwin
