Principles of Promised Land Living

Deuteronomy 1:8 “…go in and possess the land…”

Patton FranksHaving led the Israelites out of Egypt, through the wilderness and up to the Jordan River, Moses is about to die and leave Joshua to take them into the Land of Canaan. This book of Deuteronomy is his farewell address. Many who listened to his sermon there by the Jordan had not even been born when they left Egypt!

They needed to be prepared and this was Moses’ last opportunity to impart the things he considered most important into their hearts and minds.

The first issue with which he would deal was….

1. Remember the Lessons of History

The first four chapters are an encouragement to remember their past experiences of success and failure. They had heard the voice of God, seen the fire of God and witnessed signs and wonders (4:33-40) and been brought to their present position because the Lord is faithful! (3:3) Moses is telling them as they look toward the future they should remember the past! Remember the things that led to defeat in the past and avoid them, likewise remember the victories and know that the same God that helped them succeed is still alive, still on His throne and His hand is not shortened, He is still able to “save… to the utter most!” (Hebrews 7:25)

The first generation coming out of Egypt is the epitome of hope. Having been raised in slavery it must have seemed unbelievable their oppressors were drowned right in front of their eyes. Hope sprang up! They must have thought, “God is going to deliver us!” Hope is one of the most powerful forces on earth. It keeps us going, it rouses us to march forth, to achieve, to grow, to develop and progress! Moses great challenge was to keep hope alive in this second generation! They need to be fully convinced that God is going to help the same way He had helped their parents! They need to believe they can experience triumph the same way their parents have and Moses is telling them, they can!

2. Keep the Laws of God

From chapter 5 to chapter 26 Moses emphasizes the Law of the Lord. He gave them a complete system that would insure the hungry being fed, the care of widows and orphans and justice for all people regardless of what level of society they occupied! There are those who would like to be rid of the Bible, they see it as an archaic collection of folk tales irrelevant to present day life. However, if it is the Word of God, if it is true, that presents a considerable problem! A wonderful thing happened in the decade of the eighties regarding this scripture before us.

Many in the academic world had denied the Exodus or at least minimized it to the point of insignificance. A disabled Israeli war veteran, one of the most respected archeologist in Israel Adam Zertal, started a virtual firestorm when he announced he had found the first Altar erected  by Joshua (dating to 1250bc) on a hill overlooking the modern city of Nablus (Biblical Shechem) (Joshua 8:30)   That was evidence the Land had been delivered to the Hebrews just as the Bible said! As believers, we believe it was delivered through a series of Supernatural events!

We also believe that its commands are the Word of God and that there are consequences for not obeying those commands and reward for keeping those commands! The book of Deuteronomy gives instructions for everything from how to have a party (Feast) to how to administer capital! These are not arbitrary commands! Keeping His word will help prevent sickness, poverty, broken relationships, God’s word tells us how to live successfully and abundantly!

3. Renew the Covenant

Chapter 27-30 constitute a charge to rededicate their lives to the Lord. “…on Mount Ebal you shall set up stones…build an altar…” (27:4-5) This was the first place God appeared to Abram after he entered Canaan. It is as if, God is taking them right back where to their beginning, right to square one to say, “Let’s be sure we have this right! Let’s go over the terms of the agreement one more time!

Let’s be sure we understand one another!” “…I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil… love the LORD thy God… walk in his ways… keep his commandments… that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD … shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.” (Dt. 30: 16)

Obey God

We have three highly condensed points before us. The one thing I notice is under the three divisions there are key verses.

Point number one offers us a key in Chapter 4: 40, “…Keep His statues and His commandments…”

Point number two gives us Chapter 26:17, “…Keep His statutes, His commandments and His judgments…”

Point number three gives us Chapter 30:16, “…keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments…”

What is the main point? Obey God, Obey God, Obey God!

We all have a desire to live successfully in the Place Of Promise!

There is a something we can do to make that desire a reality!

Obey God!

At The King’s Table

Patton Franks

Patton FranksI asked Patton Franks, one of the best Bible teachers I know of, for permission to share this valuable article with you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have….

“…at the King’s table.” II Samuel 9:13

The loyalty David showed toward King Saul is a challenge and inspiration to everyone who has been in a place of service. He was forced to flee for his life on several occasions yet refused to take revenge on Saul even when those who had come to his rescue insisted the Lord had delivered Saul into his hand.

In this text Saul’s family has been practically wiped out and David is still trying to demonstrate his love and loyalty to King Saul! At David’s inquiry a grandson is located. This grandson becomes one of the greatest demonstrations in the Old Testament of a recipient of the Grace of God.

His response to David reflects the hopelessness of his situation. He compares himself to a dead dog. (9:8) What is more descriptive of ruin than a dead dog? That is every human’s condition before meeting the King, we are all as dead dogs. Consider what we know about this man.

  1. Mephibosheth means “dispeller of shame.” (Strong’s 4648) But he was unable to live up to that name! He was living in fear and expressed his feeling of helplessness at the appearance of David by falling down on his face. (II Sam 9:6) The person who feels he has completely lived up to his potential and gloriously fulfilled his destiny is rare indeed! On the other hand, almost everyone can identify with this man who fell on his face so far from the hoped for potential expressed by his name. He had not dispelled shame but fallen into more shame! A part of the human condition since the fall of Adam has been SHAME!
  2. When he was only five years old he fell and was crippled for life. (4:4) Someone in a position of trust, perhaps in haste, perhaps through neglect, perhaps through no real fault of their own had been unable to adequately protect this child. He had been permanently scarred by that fall, he was victimized. There are people all around us who bare the scars of neglect and abuse from their child hood.
  3. A King was searching for Mephibosheth (9:1)  King Jesus is in search of the victimized, the neglected and abused! Perhaps you need to know that a King is searching for you today!
  4. Mephibosheth received a promise from the King. “ I will surely show thee kindness … and will restore thee all the land of … thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table…” (6:7) King Jesus gives us His promise of restoration and healing! Everything of value that has been lost to you is found in His Court around His Table!
  5. As far as the Biblical record is concerned he alone is left of his father’s house. HE WAS ALONE!  King Jesus has promised never to forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) If we are in relationship with him, we will never be alone!
  6. He was living (existing!) in the House of Machir. (9:4) Machir comes from a word meaning “to sell, literally …as merchandise… into slavery…” (Strong’s #4353, 4376)  In Lodebar  which means no pasture. (Strong’s #3810) Could there be any better description of a person out of relationship with Christ?  He had failed to live up to his name, he had been dropped and victimized as a child, he was a cripple, he was alone, he was in poverty, he was in a place of no pasture, that is STARVING, he was in fear and shame and all the while the King was searching for him to give him great and marvelous promises and restoration!
  7. He was “Fetched!” That is an old English word and not in common usage. (9:5) (Strong’s #3947) It means, “… to take…accept…  draw… receive …  seize … win.”  Every one who knows Christ can testify his heart was taken, he was accepted, drawn and seized by the Spirit and his loyalty and affection, won by the Prince of Peace!
  8. That restoration involved not only what he personally had lost, but it what his father had lost and even what his grandfather had lost! (9:9) People are often trapped in cycles and generations of misery! Violence and addictions ravage whole families leaving individuals alone, broken and ruined. King Jesus searches for those very people with the intention of bringing them into His family and providing all their needs at His Table!
  9. Some have suggested his deformed feet were hidden beneath the King’s Table his inability becoming totally insignificant!
  10. Cared for as one of the King’s Children! David said to him, “…eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.” (9:11) There is something about being accepted as one of the family that does  something special to the human heart, both to the person being accepted and to the  one who extends the trust and love. To eat at the King’s table as one of His sons implies a covenant relationship. The food represents life. If I share my food with you as if you are my child, that indicates everything I have is at your disposal. That food sustains me and gives me strength.
  11. At the King’s Table all the companions are royalty! Having just been in Leesville, La in the Family Worship Center’s Missions Conference I am very aware of having been at the Table with Royalty! Thirty plus Missionaries from all over the world, Asia, Africa, Central & South America as well as those working in home Missions and those GREAT FOLKS WHO SEND THEM YEAR AFTER YEAR in every way are Royal Companions and Colleagues with whom anyone would be thankful and honored to be associated!

THE KING INVITES YOU TO SHARE  HIS LIFE, HE OFFERS TO YOU THAT WHICH SUSTAINS HIM AND GIVES HIM STRENGTH.

I hope this  morning finds you at the King’s Table!

Is Franklin Graham Hostile?

Is Franklin Graham Bashing the Current Administration?

Is Franklin Graham an Islam and Obama hater?

I don’t think so.

Is Rev Graham hostile? Quite the opposite.

Watch the following video and you decide for yourself.

OK, I can’t help it. Notice that the video is a CNN Report.  Based on this interview who seems to be the most hostile?

For the record. I agree with Franklin Graham’s comments.

9 Years Later…

“Good News!”
Our daughter, Cristi was born sometime around September 19th, 2000.

This month, April 8th , 2010 we went to Arriaga, Chiapas and got her Mexican Birth Certificate. The name on the birth certificate….

Ana Cristina Nemer Trejo

It’s official. Cristi now has a registered document recognized by the Mexican Government stating that Greg and Ana Nemer are her parents.

The Nemer Family April, 2010 (129)

We All Paid a Price

This good news comes after over 9 years of struggle. Cristi came into our family when she was only a couple months old. However, adoption procedures took us many years and besides the time involved, we endured many emotional, financial and bureaucratic hardships to accomplish this goal.

I’m a Mexican Citizen

Many of you may remember that we were awarded the adoption last year. So why the wait to make it official by obtaining a birth certificate?

We were waiting for me to get my Mexican citizenship because we processed the adoption as Mexicans. Yes, I now have dual citizenship- Call me a Mexi-Gringo or Gringo-Cano if you wish.

Was it worth it?

What do you think? As we were processing the birth certificate the worker stated, “What a lucky child to have parents like you”. I quickly replied, “We are the ones who have been blessed to have a child like Cristi”.

Trials Produce Growth

The entire experience has caused us to grow in character and wisdom. It wasn’t easy. Trials usually aren’t easy. However, compared to others who have lost their life, or like Claudia, the 13 year old girl I wrote about a couple of months ago it wasn’t that bad. Claudia had her leg amputated because of cancer.

There Is Hope

When facing a trial it helps to remember there is almost always someone else who is experiencing a more difficult problem than you are.  If you’re facing a trial today our prayer is that God will give you the grace to pass through it, the vision to see that it will one day end and the courage to never give up. Focus on What You CAN Do.

Thanks for your prayers and financial support.

Praise Jesus it paid off and it was well worth it!

Focus on What You CAN Do

Dont’ focus on what you CAN”T Do. Focus on what You CAN DO!

Stop Chasing other Peoples Dreams

You’re going to love this video. Perhaps you feel like your just “chasing birds” instead of following after your dreams. You don’t have to be like the superstars. Just use your God given talents and do what comes natural. Don’t focus on your faults and shortcomings.

Keep on trying…

Never Give up…

I used to be a cowboy (yes, really). I sometimes fell off my horse. But the older cowboys would always tell me. “”There’s nothing wrong with falling off your horse, as long as you get back on again”.

Those wise but sometimes crude cowboys would also say,

“Here’s how you can tell the difference between a fake cowboy and a real cowboy-

You can find manure, dirt and grime on the outside of a real cowboys boots.

A fake cowboy has the manure on the inside of his boots.

Son, What are You made of?”

My question to you is, Son of God, What are you made of?

Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do?

Many children didn’t have shoes– we put shoes on their feet.

Some children weren’t expecting a gift for Christmas– we provided them a small toy.

DSC_0560_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0559_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0557_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0556_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0555_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0554_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0553_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0548_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0552_2144x1424_1072x712 DSC_0547_2144x1424_1072x712

And one child particularly touched our heart….

Claudia Sotomayor. She’s a 13 year who had a cancerous tumor in her leg.

RAGALO DE LAPTOP A CLAUDIA

Although Claudia was week and skinny from weeks of chemotherapy she was courageous.

Claudia’s family, who are from a small town miles away were financially drained.  They were forced to sleep on cardboard boxes at the entrance of the children’s hospital because only 1 family member was allowed inside at a time.

We prayed and we also took action…

We provided our apartment in Tuxtla Gutierrez  for Claudia’s family members. We gave donations to pay for food and we gave Claudia a laptop.

“The smile on Claudia’s face is worth more than the cost of any computer”

Update–

Claudia had to have her leg amputated.

However she and her family are reaching  out to other unfortunate children located in the hospital.

A few days ago, they invited a mother and her 3 year old boy who has also been diagnosed with cancer to stay in the apartment with them.

This isn’t the first time they’ve  reached out to others who are in the same circumstance as them.

That touches my heart…. They understand the pain and are ministering to others.

We want to thank you because you also understand children’s pain.  Your financial gifts and prayers enable us to continue reaching out to needy children here in Mexico.

We appreciate you,

The Nemer Family

The Best Gift

Of Course the best gift has already been provided for you.

Jesus Christ.

It is our desire that you and your family experience the joy of Christmas through our Savior. May you have a blessed Christmas.

The Christmas Story- Fact or Fiction

Do you have your Christmas story straight?
Watch this video to see if you’ve fallen for any of these Christmas myths.

Fact or Fiction?

  • Jesus was born on December 25th
  • Mary rode into Bethlehem on a Donkey
  • There was no room for Joseph and Mary in the Inn
  • Three Wise men brought gifts to Baby Jesus

Santa Claus only gives good gifts to good children (ok, that one is not in this video)

When I was in Bible college a lot of students wanted to debate on rather or not Jesus would come before, during or after the tribulation. I usually spent my time evangelizing and didn’t enter into the conversations because all I knew was that Jesus would come again as he promised and I wanted to get the word out about Salvation through Jesus.

I also know this fact. Jesus came to this earth. God Gave his Son as a Gift to all mankind. It was the ultimate gift. I like to celebrate Christmas  by giving gifts also. Which, by the way, we’re doing right now- Christmas Gifts in Chiapas, Mexico

It may not be that important rather or not you think Jesus was born in a stable or in a cave. It is important that Jesus came.

11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:11-14, King James Version)

I hope you enjoy this Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

God Bless you and your family.

Greg, Ana, and Cristi

p.s. I really did think Mary rode in on a donkey!

God’s Purpose, Your Potential [Butterfly Circus Videos]

Claudia Sotomayor

I love talking about how God has a plan for peoples life.

God has a purpose for you.

Watch these uplifting videos in case you may have forgotten.

God Can transform a Cocoon into a beautiful butterfly. He can use your weaknesses for his glory.

You are valuable.

Do you think your problems are BIG?

There is always someone who has bigger problems.

Claudia Sotomayor Hernandez

Remember that name because she is on the verge of being transformed. She is a butterfly in the making. It’s a painful process.

Claudia Sotomayor

Greg and Claudia

This little girl has become my special project here in Mexico. Claudia is 13 years old. The Doctors say she has cancer in the bones in her legs. (God says differently because he can heal her) She is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Although she vomits a lot because of the treatment and recently had to have blood transfusions, that is not her biggest fear-

The Doctors are planning on amputating her legs.

It’s a big problem, but not too big for God. Please pray for Claudia.

The Butterfly Circus Movie

The guy in these 2 10 minute mini movies has no legs, he doesn’t even have arms.

I know your problems may seem great, but somehow it helps to see how those with even bigger problems are surpassing them.

It also helps to give out to others when we have needs.

I hope you enjoy the following movie clips because you really do have a lot of potential….

The circus owner and the guy without limbs (Nick)  are both Christians. I’ve also included subtitles in Spanish since I know a lot of Spanish speakers.

Remember God has a purpose for you  because he knows you have a lot of potential!
