Swine Flu Epidemic in Chiapas, Mexico

Just in case you’ve been following the news and are wondering about us.-

There is a big scare with the swine flu. All the schools are closed here where we live.. People are wearing face masks and all the stores are out of vitamin C.

We want to let you know that we are ok.

We have been traveling to many different churches this week with a musician from Chile.
Today we are in Juarez Chiapas starting a new Church using a concert to draw new people to the new work.

We are canceling the rest of the tour after today because the Mexican government has prohibited public meetings because of the epidemic..

Tomorrow we will go back to our house . Thursday we will be with the Tzeltal Indians with a another New Church plant.

Thanks for your prayers.

Ministry in Puerto Arista

I just recently ministered at the beach in Puerto Arista, Chiapas.

Several Churches were invited. There were baptisms, seafood and lots of sunshine.

The beach here has no large hotels or modern structures but we did manage to secure a very nice place to meet.

We also invited the Tzotzil Indians. 18 of them got to see the beach for their very first time.

Hope you enjoy the video and the photos:

Missions With Purpose

Missions With Purpose

The Nemer Family has served Christ as missionaries since 1987.

Our Mission is to “MAKE DISCIPLES FOR CHRIST AND ESTABLISH INDIGENOUS CHURCHES”

We are currently located in the mountains in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico. We travel to the Chenalho communities where we work with Tzotzil and Tzetal Indian tribes.

The 5 aspects of our ministry can best be described using the P.E.A.C.E PLAN:

  1. Planting Churches      (to attack spiritual lostness)
  2. Equipping Servant leaders      (to attack ego-centric leadership)
  3. Assisting the Poor      (to attack poverty)
  4. Care for the sick      (to attack disease)
  5. Educating the next Generation      (to attack illiteracy and minister to children)

We are also the International directors for Unanimous Ministries which provides a spiritual and support covering for a growing number of Churches and Ministries.

Under Heavy Affliction in Tzanembolom

Congregration in Tzanembolom

The Poorest of the Poor.
Recently we ministered in an Indian village of 400 people called Tzanembolom.
This is one of the poorest villages I have ever visited. Despite the cool weather many of the Indians were without proper shoes or clothing to protect them from the weather.
It was especially heartbreaking to see the children without shoes.  This Christmas we will be giving a toy and personal necessities to these very poor Indian children. You can be a part by sending in your special donations. Don’t miss this opportunity to give a real Christmas experience to some really needy children.
Now, more than ever, These Children need Hope and Love!

Martyred in Tzanembolom

This is the same village in which Diego Rodriguez Pastors a church of over 200 people which is half the population.
On Oct 15, 1997 the Zapatistas entered Tzanembolom and began to cut up Indian residents with their machetes.  Pastor Diego was strung up to a post and prepared to be killed. However, while his friends were being massacred he managed to escape with his life. As Pastor Diego told me the story he couldn’t help but to weep. Many of his family members and close friends were martyred this day
Sadly, this is only one of the many Christian Indian tribes that suffered the loss of lives and have been persecution because of their faith in Christ.

Difficult Times and Funeral Photos with the Tzotzil Indians

Pastor Mariano's Funeral

We have been going through some difficult times with the ministry and even in our own personal lives. Trials and Difficult times are a part of life. Robbie Goodwin just described these in her most recent post called The Wilderness Place.

August 19-23 Ministry News and Video

Last week Jeff and Dustin Edwards Visited us. Our group also consisted of Edwin and Antonio, who are a couple of young men that I am discipling. We went Tzalchen where we the Indians are building a church. We picked up heavy concrete that were the remnants of the old church building. The Tzotzil Indians have made rapid progress on this building.

Apostle Mariano’s wife is the Pastor of this growing church. [Read more...]

Addressing Missions Concerns

As missionaries, are we meeting the greatest needs of those we are ministering to?
This is a constant concern and the effectiveness of any missionary that you are considering support should be at the forefront of your thoughts. As a missionary , I have seen effective missionaries and I have seen uneffective missionaries. There are those who go full speed ahead and there are thos who are just lazy. I am not saying that we are any better than any other person. Our goal is simply to become more effective in the activities, methods and services that we perform on the field.

Here’s how we are addressing the needs of the Mexican people:
CHURCH PLANTING
This is our #1 Priority. The goal of raising up new indigenous churches and filling them with disciples for Christ is God’s passion. In Jalisco we left behind 3 church plants and now with the birth of Unanimous Ministries here in Chiapas we continue with this goal in a more effective manner.
EQUIPPING SERVANT LEADERS• We are training up new leaders on a daily basis

ASSISTING THE POOR
Jesus said that whatever you have done for the least of these (the poor…, the sick…, the children) you have done for me. We are ministering to these needs by going to the poorest regions of Latin America.

CARING FOR THE SICK
Constant medical teams visits from other countries and parts of Mexico enable us to minister to disease, sickness, dental, and more medical issues.

EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION- CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
Jesus tells us that children are his heartbeat and that we should not despise them. On a weekly basis we are meeting poor children’s needs through meals and Biblical education.

Have a great day!
